Composition
Alginate dressings is made from calcium alginate fiber. Alginate silver ion dressings consist of calcium alginate fiber and silver ion.
Application
Mainly used for protecting the wound with too much exudates, mainly used as dressings.
Mechanism of Action
Alginate Dressings
When sterile alginate dressings meets the wound exudates, then will cause Na+/Ca2+Ion exchange, this process will turn non-soluble calcium alginate into soluble sodium alginate. Then the freed calcium ion will induce the platelet activation, thus stopping the bleeding immediately, absorbing the large amount of exudates and then forming gel. Finally creating a humid condition which is good for the healing of the wound.
Alginate Silver Ion Dressings
As to alginate silver ion dressings, it is composed of sterile calcium alginate, carboxymethylcellulose and an ionic silver complex (silver sodium hydrogen zirconium phosphate). When the dressing comes into contact with wound exudate, it releases antimicrobial ionic silver which very effectively reduces the microbial load caused by a broad spectrum of microorganisms, including antibiotic-resistant bacteria (MRSA and VRE).
Usage
Clean the wound before use, and dry the skin around wound edge. According to the size of the wound, select the product whose edge is 2cm wider than that of the wound to ensure adequate adhesion between the product and the skin. Then fix the sterile alginate dressings with medical gauze and medical adhesive tape.
